For an idea of what this is see the Eelex shortwave Converter

Puzzling why this model has such a similar name to the Eelex? Maybe the name was chosen so that people looking for an Eelex would see this one and decide it looked nicer?

The amplifier/oscillator valve has been removed. It would have plugged into the socket on the left.

Odd it should mention battery and AC mains ONLY.. presumably DC mains wasn't suitable? My guess is that AC/DC sets might have their mains lead reversed when on an AC supply and thus have a live chassis, then connecting this to earth would not be a great idea.
